Hi.
As some or all of you know. I am leaving. No, not forever. Just until August 27th. I do in fact leave very soon. July 30th to be exact.
Our flight leaves at 10:00am. But because of the whole airport deal we have to be there two or three hours before. We fly from Toronto to Washington, D.C. because there is no direct flight from Canada to Johannesburg. Or at least from Toronto. The Washington flight is around an hour. We land in D.C. at 11:30am. However we have a layover of 6 hours. I'm still not sure what we're doing those six house, but I think it's in between sitting in the airport or taking a cab and being creepy tourists. Whatever we do, there shall be pictures. Either from immense boredom, or tourism.
Our plane departs from Washington at 5:40pm. We then have ((no joke)) an 18 hour flight across 'the pond' to Johannesburg, South Africa. If my head hasn't exploded by then it sure will now. We land in Joburg at 3:00pm on Thursday. You have to mind though. South Africa is six hours behind us. Example: Time now: 2:15pm. Time there: 8:15pm.
After going through all the customs and border stuff that everyone hates, we leave and pick up our beast of a car. It is the epitome of big, broad and beastly. No joke. It sits like… Eight people… Or ten… Or something humongous like that.
My father is staying at his mothers, and my mom, myself, and my brother will be staying at my mom's friend's house. I believe we sleep at our respective houses for two nights and then I believe my brother and I will then be moved to our cousin's place. He went to Thailand for a bit. From there we head have to drive around ten hours to the game reserve we're staying at. However because of the layout we have to sleep on route to the game reserve. It's called Kruger National Park. It's the biggest game reserve in South Africa. It's pretty damn big.
We travel around the northern part of the Kruger National Park ((Green section of the northernmost province)). After we travel around there for a week or so, we drive the distance back to Johannesburg, where drop of my father's mother and then head back to the airport to fly to George. Here there are two possibilities.
Option A: Fly from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth and then drive from Port Elizabeth to George.
Option B: Fly from Johannesburg directly to George.
Personally, I'm hoping for Option B. From there, we stay with my mom's sister and her mom for the rest of the time. My cousins live there so there's stuff to do. Last time we went we drove up to Oudstwoorn and climbed a cave/found my father some books/went to the tree canopy place.
After all this, we fly back to Johannesburg and then take the 6:00pm flight back to Washington. We land in Washington around 6:00am. We then have a three hour layover, leaving at 8:15am before flying up to Toronto. We land around 9:45am. But we still have to go through customs and such.
I'm pretty sure that both my brother and I will be attending school the next day on the account that we're missing both registration and the first two days of school for this trip.
We do not have much access to computers/internet while there. And when we do, the price of internet is pretty expensive ((at least compared to Canada)). However, I will try and come on every so often. I plan on writing up a brief summary of what has just happened during my vacation. I also hope to include photos… But we shall see how that turns out… I will try though.
I shall miss you all!
